In this era, the lack of dynamism and commitment gospel has drag Christian churches to a religious state of “accommodation.”  This “accommodation,” is what the apostle Paul describe as the product of the pernicious and diabolical apathy.  The apostle exhorted the church in Rome, the capital of the world in those days. Rome was plagued with diversion and pleasures.  There was no limit to orgies of high class nor the abuse of hallucinate drugs in the lower class. In these bacchanals, strange idols and gods were worshipped, along with strident music that took them to extreme psychological and emotional states; where they would reach ecstasy and exotic pleasures, all of which are diabolical.  Paul warns Christ’s church by saying, “be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Rom 12:2).

It’s understood by apathy, the lack of interest or emotion; this is exactly what’s consuming the modern church. This sickening laziness impedes the church to defend the spiritual values.

It’s easier to listen the gospel than it is to live the gospel, let’s read: “be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (Jas 1:22).  Read and understand, says the Lord.  Those who only limit themselves to listening, are poor Christians that fool themselves; believing that they are worthy of the Heavens when in reality they are losing their souls.  However, those who preserves “into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”(v: 25).  My beloved brothers and sisters, we must not be careless about this precious opportunity, that God gives us through His son Jesus Christ, this precious and yearned opportunity of eternal life; because if we do, we’ll lament it with tears.

This salvation must be care with “fear and trembling.” We must cleanse ourselves from every decaying spirit that the devil administers, like the doubt.  Does your weakness depress you?  Everything is possible with Christ who fortifies us.  Don’t you have the will to prey? Raise up and boost the fire of the Holy Spirit in your Life!  The Lord says, ” Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened”(Lk 11:9-10).

Elijah was man with weaknesses, just like us but he prayed fervently and God responded him.  Does worldly passion and desire distract you? Remember that the Lord says, “the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”(1Jn 2:17).

In regard to this, the apostle Paul says, “for the fashion of this world passeth away”(1 Cor 7:31).  Solomon also says, “vanity of vanities,… all is vanity.”(Eccl 12:8).  We must not be distracted and be sincerely loyal to Christ; the devil will try to sway us from the path, he uses strategies like the distraction from Christ.  We must be diligent and attentive to the things that cannot be seen, for they are eternal, not like the earthly things that are ephemeral.  Perhaps materialistic needs are what obligates us to become careless in our spiritual life?  The Lord Jesus Christ once said, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”(Mk 8:36).

Every human strives to gain intelligence, culture, materials and etc.  Things that give glory, power, fame, pleasure, and etc.  But it will never give eternal peace.  Many so called believers, have put their faith aside, and desire to reach these temporary goods and upon reaching will only be fill with arrogance; none of which helps in reaching the eternal life.  My beloved reader, what is the price that you will pay or have paid in reaching worldly goals?   And honestly, are you happy?  The Lord says,”Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  For after all these things the gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you”(Matt 6:31-33).

The apathy, can condemn us slowly and silently.  Wake up God’s people and prepare yourselves for the encounter of our Saviour and Pastor of our souls.  Lord Jesus come, your church is waiting. Amen.
