We are in the midst of a world filled with noises, a world that gives away glories and praise to every imaginable thing such as: love, the moon, stars, women, men, mountains, rivers, lakes, birds, etc. There exist a peculiarity regarding human beings, which is due to a capacity given by God. This capacity is to recognize, consider, and analyze everything around us. The result of this analysis is to praise that which is beautiful, sublime, high, inexplicable, etc. Our praise is due to this unique quality that humans possess.

We don’t expect to see an animal express thought, accompanied by some type of intelligent rhythm of music produced by instruments. This production of sounds and rhythms are only due to the human mind, which emits pleasurable sounds that are products of the harmony of instruments and voices. The beasts of the field, animals of the sea, birds in the skies (although they possess sweet songs, these songs are only an ornament created by God to the benefit of men,) none of them could intelligently praise God; they simply cannot.

Men, the precious crown of the divine creation, is the only created being that is able to give the praise that our good God deserves, and exalt his marvelous attributes; we are part of the universe created by God. Let us read: “Sing the praise of the Lord, enthroned in Zion: proclaim among the nations what he has done”(Psa 9:11, NIV). “Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him in the ten-stringed lyre”(Psa 33:2). “May the people praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy…”(Psa 67:3-4).

Yes my beloved brother and reader, God invites us to acknowledge his marvelous works through spiritual songs that impact the soul of men, and that stimulate it to a true, intelligent, and voluntary sacrifice to God. God does not invite us to create music that stimulates the flesh and leaves no impact in our conscience. Let us void exchanging spiritual reasoning for sensual rhythms of the flesh, which hinders proper reasoning and the senses. God asks for proper worship and not so much to be guided by emotions (Romans 12:1). Praise is an expression of approval or admiration for anything or anyone, but worship should be reserved for God alone.

Let us sing with musical instruments to our holy God, and let us use such instruments with joy and happiness, accompanied with humility and simplicity of the spirit; because it is for the glory of God and not our own. Yes brother, let your worship to God be of universal dimensions, “may the people praise you” and may your worship have a perpetual and permanent character, because this gift is only given to men. “I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord…”(Psa 34:1-2)

Who worships God?

Now that we understand that worship is the product of a convinced and converted heart; from darkness to the wonderful light of God, it should not merely come from the expression of a skillful poet or musician. Instead, it should come from a heart where God lives, a heart that has experienced the healing and liberating power of the Lamb of God, Christ Jesus. This is why God’s word says: “Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him” (Psa. 33:1). See how it says, “it is fitting for the upright to praise him.”

Unfortunately, we can see how in our times the holy worship to God has been made worldly and commercialized. Great singing and instrument-playing skills are used for the benefit of individuals. There are countless praise songs that are developed merely for a profitable and carnal end. Those seeking glories and fame sacrifice that which is Holy and they substitute it for a type of “worship” that only stimulates that which is sensual in men, and mocks the intimate and true worship that should be to thank: “God the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.” (1 Tim 6:15-16).

This is the true heart and soul of our worship to our holy God: “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen” (1Tim 1:17). When you sing to our God, do it with a full certainty of faith and conviction that you are elevating your prayer and praise. This praise must be expressed through a means which is worship born of a pure heart. This is why you should praise God, and make a sacrifice of worship, tell him: “Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise.” (Psa 51:15). “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” (Psa 9:1). May God’s perfect peace be with you all. Amen.
