God placed in his chosen, a deep feeling of justice and eternity. But in that amnesia, provoked by the insult and trauma of sin, there only rests a distant and blurry memory of a justice. In addition, life does not end here, instead there is something more glorious; and sheltered in a minuscule hope, there will come to us through the word of God the confirmation to re-gain slowly in our thought, the “spiritual fatherly figure.” This is revealed by faith and confirmed through the seal of the Holy Spirit, that we are more than merely creatures; we are legitimate sons of a just and eternal God. Let us read: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children” (Ro 8:16, NIV).

Now, waking up from that amnesia through he revelation of Christ’s gospel, a new panorama of life opens up. And we are taken to deep thought regarding our location in the context of a temporal world. Even through human effort of this world, we will never come to conceive the true justice, because it doesn’t pertain to this stage, since the Lord is our righteous savior. Even less to reach eternity, since God placed limits to the life span of every human and only in him there lays the power over life and death.

With this spiritual renovation and opening to a new dimension to the eternal, we come to realize that this world is just a dream, full of fantasy and illusionary projects. Because there is no truth and in faith we accept: we are in the world, but we are not of the world anymore. There is left an expectation: that we are only peregrines and travelers, and as such, we must give up to the worldly system. Knowing reliably that: “…the day of the Lord would will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare” (2 Pe 3:10). To this reality revealed by faith, the sons of God reject all material and humane hope, projecting vividly to what needs to be our clearer desire, let us read: “But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a NEW HEAVEN and a NEW EARTH, where RIGHTNEOUSNESS DWELLS” (Vs 13); dwell, means to make a house or a home.

Remember that in this world, since its genesis, there was a curse, in which God in his mercy, saved men: “Cursed is the ground because of you…” (Gn 3:17). For this reason the Earth of today, that is temporarily governed by Satan, will be destroyed completely. Maybe some say that the destruction will not be physically, instead figuratively, with respect to a renovation, even though there are many passages that determine something real and that fire destroys all.

What is the meaning of a ‘new heaven and new earth’?

John receives the revelation: “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband… He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Rev 21: 1-4). But there is also something glorious, which is the thousand-years reign with Christ, where: “… the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will rein over Jacob’s descendants forever…” (Lk 1:32-33).

This beloved and looked-for stage is for the peregrine, those who didn’t find their lives here, but they rejected themselves. There will be a place where we will live a true justice with Christ as king and governor, and his church also judging with him: “They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit… They will not labor in vain, nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune… Before they call I will answer… the wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, says the Lord” (Isa 65: 21-25).

To this proved revelation, founded in the Holy Scripture, whoever has ears let them hear. Apostle Peter teaches us in the following manner: “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat” (2 Pe 3:11-12). In this passage, when he talks about the elements, it is clear that it includes materially: metals, minerals, liquids, solids, etc.

But beloved brothers, the promise is only for the peregrine. Since the time of Abraham- who lived in Ur of the Chaldeans, 350 years after the great flood- the people made a city with good houses and much prosperity, but he was called by God to live in tents, where he remained by faith, becoming God’s friend. Let us also receive through the promise, new heavens and new earth where righteousness dwells, loving it and embracing it by faith. May God bless you. Amen and amen.
